Southampton Common 近所の公園でランニング

I started running in the end of year in UK. There is a big park called Southampton common near my house. Up to now, I have been super busy for my academic life. So, I did not realize such a nice park. This park is very nice place to run and walk. Why I did not realize...

I decided to run 2 km every day, which is not long distance. But, today I walked in the middle of the course.. it's pity that I am no longer me that I used to be. But it's OK. It is important to continue.. I need efforts to get my healthy life back. It's challenging.. Tomorrow, I am going to London to celebrate New Year. So, happy new year everyone !!


英国での年末年始に、ランニングを始めることにしました。
家から歩いて徒歩５分ぐらいのところに、Southampton Common という、大きい公園があります。今まで、余裕がなかったので、あまり気に掛けることがなかったのですが、ランニングや散歩に適した素晴らしい公園です。どうして、今まで気が付かなかったのか。。

ということで、健康のことも気遣って、毎朝ランニングをすることにしました。　一周3.5kmぐらいなのですが、僕は、無理をせず半周の2km　を走ることにしました。　そして、つらい時はWalkingでも可としました。　ボーダー低い！って思われそうですが、それでないと、続かにので。。どうかご容赦下さい。　ということで、暫くは、このランニングを続けて行きたいと思います。　目指すは、スタイリッシュで、陽気なイタリア人のNick(Nicholas)です。　彼は、今、故郷のミラノに帰っていますが、それもつかの間、年明けは研究で、ギリシャとスイスに行くことになっていて、忙しいようです。１月の下旬には、またイギリスに帰ってくるそうです。　彼も頑張っているようです。

そして、今日も無事、この義務を履行しました！が、、やっぱり４日目でちょっと疲れていたのか、途中で歩いてしまいました。結果、1.5kmランニング、0.5km ウォーキングです。　まぁ現実はこんなもんですよね。　帰るころには、体、締まったねぇ～と言われるよう、頑張ります。　明日はロンドンのカウントダウンに行ってきます。それでは、皆様、よいお年を。

Merry Christmas in Richard's family

I visited a British, Richard family as an experience of British culture. Christmas holiday in Britain is just like New year holiday in Japan. On the day, every shop in the city close and transportation stops. Everyone can take a rest and celebrate Christmas. In Japan, many shops open on the New year holiday. I thought we need the day when everyone can take a rest including people working in the transportation.

Today, British guy took me the local church in the morning. The priest of church said something to confirm us to live with happy. Whether you believe religion or not, this is a good opportunity to celebrate something. After that, I was invited to have a lunch together in his house. I expected they served a typical roasted turkey. My expectation was correct so, his wife, Ann and his daughter, Catherine cooked a wide range of Christmas foods including Turkey.  So, I enjoyed Christmas dinner with them.

When I was satisfied, we went to a living room together and watch TV. The queen Elizabeth came up and made a speech looking back this year. This is very similar to us. Our emperor also made a speech on New year holiday. Then Richard gave their son and daughter presents. It was different us because parents do not give presents to their son and daughter when they grow up to adult. I thought they demonstrated that parents' thought  to their son and daughter never change over time. Finally, they gave us presents which were chocolate. It's enough because we knew their feeling.

Finally, I was satisfied with feeling and foods of Christmas. Thank you.


Merry Christmas ! 今日は、カルチャー体験ということで、British Family を訪問してきました。
英国のクリスマスは、一言で言うと、日本で言う正月のイメージです。
アットホームな雰囲気で、日本でイメージするクリスマスとは違います。

ちなみにクリスマスの日は、店は閉まり、バスはもちろん、電車も止まります。
この日だけは、みんな休みます。こういう日が日本にもあってもいいなと思います。
正月は、コンビニ含めて、全員休業。それで、いいんじゃないの？

今日は、10時前にファミリーが自宅までお出迎えしてくれて、地元の教会に連れて行ってもらいました。　正直、内容全てはわからなかったのですが、神への祝福の言葉、ちょっとした喜劇、そして皆で、合唱という内容でした。　宗教を信じる、信じないは置いておいて、全員が祝福できる何かがあるということに関して、羨ましいと思いました。　そしてイベントの後は、久々に会う友人たちと語らう。　なんと微笑ましい光景か。

その後、12時過ぎにファミリー宅で、クリスマスランチを頂きました。クリスマスの日には、伝統的にTurkeyが丸ごと出るのが、聞いていたのですが、期待通り、やっぱり出してくれました。　奥さんのAnn と娘のCatharineがクリスマス料理を作ってくれました。"Thank you"それしか言えない自分が申し訳ない。そんな気持ちになりました。　その後、日本文化や、産業革命の話をした後、テレビで、エリザベス女王のスピーチを聞き、紅茶を飲みつつ、再度会話を楽しみました。ここでは、Christopherが色々と地元の情報を教えてくれました。なんと有難いことか。
そして、その後、ツリーの下に置いてあったプレゼントを子供に配っていました。　ちゃっかり、自分もお菓子のプレゼントを貰ちゃいました。　まぁ、なんというか、少し気恥ずかしい思いです。

ということで、気持ちもお腹も、Christmasで満たされた貴重な一日でありました。
本当にありがとう。

Japanese Dinner

Japanese Dinner

Today, we had a Japanese dinner I prepared for. I went to London to buy some traditional foods like Natto and Takuan. The members I sent invitations are Italian, Japanese and Chinese. They are always nice to me.

The menus are

1. U-don (traditional noodle)
2. Nikuzyaga ( Potato based on say source)
3. Temaki-Sushi
4. Rice cakes
5. Japanese sake

Thanks to my efforts, the party was really successful.  The most popular in the party was  an U-don. It is simple but so tasty. Sushi is also popular that Chinese women ate very much.. But they did not understand Natto taste because of sticky things. In total, we are really happy for the dinner.

A Italian guy is a gentleman. He helped me to cut salmon and his work was excellent. He manage himself very well in his life. He wake up early and run around the park. He studied hard. During the dinner, he talked to people kindly. His style is worth to imitate for me. But it's not easy to carry on.

今日は、かねてより準備をしてたJapanese Dinner を開催しました。　わざわざロンドンまで行って、納豆やたくあん、そして、ちらし寿司の素まで仕込んでの開催です。　招待メンバーは、グループエッセイで大変お世話になった中国人の女の子２人と、イタリア人１人、日本人２人（自分含む）の５人です。　メニューはというと、

１．讃岐うどん
２．肉じゃが
３．手巻き寿司
４．おばあちゃんのポタポタ焼き
５．久保田（日本酒）

ちなみに寿司は、サーモンをイタリア人のニックが綺麗に切ってくれました。　彼の考えでは、”パーティは一緒に手伝ってやるもんだぜ”とのことです。　イヤイヤと断っても”カモーン”との返答。　まぁ、なんというか、社会性も高い彼でした。裏表のない、いい奴です。

努力の甲斐あって、かなり好評でした。　イタリア人は、うどんがシンプルでとても美味しいと、絶賛してくれました。　寿司は、中国人の女の子がガンガン食べてました。　でも、納豆だけは、どうもイマイチだったようです。　美味しいと思うのに、不思議です。　楽しい談笑の後、みなさん満足して帰って頂いて、ひとまずホッとしています。

最近、僕はイタリア人の行動に注目してます。　パーティになれば料理も手伝うし、そしてよくしゃべる。紳士だなーと思います。　みんなが楽しくなるよう配慮してくれます。　そして自己管理もしっかりできてます。　健康に気を遣い、主食は、野菜が中心。　そして、日々、物理の研究もしつつ、定期的に運動もする。　”人らしくある”、これをどこに見出すか、人にもよるけど、彼のスタイルは、理想的ではないかと思います。

Visiting friends in Cardiff and Bristol カーディフ、ブリストル訪問

Assignments has done and I have time to do something. I went to Bristol and Cardiff where my friends live. It was first time to visit my friends. Bristol has many slopes and the Uni is on the hill. I stayed at my friend accommodation and leave for Cardiff. It is fun city since it has welsh culture which is different from England. We went to the Cardiff bay and had a lunch together. The Millennium stadium in Cardiff is huge. Beside the stadium, the sports shop stands. In this shop, it places many DVDs telling that the national rugby team of Wales won England. It seemed to sell well.

Now, here in UK, it is a Christmas season. everywhere in churches, it is full of people. I sat down in one seat of the church and listened to the priest saying Bible to confirm happiness of living in the world. I could felt real christian culture and it moved my heart. So amazing !!

課題が一段落したので、Bathそして、Bristol、Cardiffを訪問して参りました。Bristolの友達の家で一泊して、Cardiffでは友達と三人でランチを楽しみました。同じイギリスとはいえど、それぞれの町に、特徴があり楽しかったです。ブリストルは、いかにもイギリスという建物が立ち並んでいて、なかなか風情を感じさせる町です。これで、シンボリックな観光名所があれば、もっと有名になっていたでしょう。

カーディフは、ウェールズ語と英語の両方の表記がしてあり、イギリスの中にありながら、独自のアイデンティティを感じさせる街です。　そしてランチをした後、ミレニアムスタジアムの脇にあるラグビーショップに行きました。　レジの近くにＤＶＤが３種類ぐらい並べてあって、その真ん中に、ウェールズ対イングランドの試合のＤＶＤが置いてありました。何でこれが置いてあるのか不思議に思い、よーく見ると、あっ、ウェールズが24対19で勝ってる。そうか、”ウェールズがイングランドに勝つ”　これは、ウェールズにとって重要な意味を持つのか。 そう思ってから、熱い何かをＤＶＤに感じたので、思い切って購入してみることに。ちょっと見るのが楽しみです。

イギリスは、今、クリスマス一色。教会でも、イベントが盛り沢山で、地元の人たちや学生で賑わってます。　信心深いかどうかは、人にもよりますが、地域コミュニティの場所として、意義深い場所になっています。　教会の中を覗くと、ほぼ満員状態。席を見つけて着席。中は、キャンドルが灯してあって、いい雰囲気。そして、聖歌を歌ったり、牧師の話を聞いたり、生きてることの有難みを再度確認するような、そんな話でした。クリスマスの意味合いは、日本とは異なるようです。

Essay writing ! エッセイ

Essay.. This is very important for academic life. It is very difficult for Japanese students. Not only a language, but also understanding academic structure is very difficult. One problem lies in our education. Japanese Universities generally do not provide an essay assignment since one lecture accommodate more  than 100 people, so students tend to be lazy without any tense atmosphere. Perhaps, students would know hoe to write essay when they write a dissertation or go to master.

Yesterday, I submitted my essay on the due. I spent much time. Two days before the due, I slept only 2-3 hours. Even 1500 words, for me, it was difficult. Reading academic texts was difficult, writing difficult, academic rule difficult. I have no idea how to write. All my problems rely on my English ability. Everything tend to lag behind.

Today, I woke up and went to the kitchen with my tiredness. I met my flat mates, Italian guy said 'hello !!' He wore the uniform of AC Milan for his running. I envy him and wanna be an Italian like him. Next semester, I wanna manage time efficiently and afford to enjoy my life. Fu~~

エッセイ、つまり小論文みたいなものですが、これを英語で書くのが、なかなか辛い。
昨日は、デッドラインの1分前に、駆け込み提出。
ちなみに、提出日の前日と前々日は、ほぼ徹夜状態。相当な錯乱状態に陥ってました。

昨日の課題は、1500 wordsと短めですが、
読んだ文献に対する、見解などを述べるので、実は読む方が大変です。
大体、参考文献きで５－１０冊入れるのが、普通なので、関連項目を読むだけでも
膨大な量なわけです。しかも使用しなかった文献も入れると、読書量はもっと増えます。

あとは、体系化して、書くのですが、自分は頭が悪いので、正直、書きながら結論をどうするかとか、そんな感じで進めて行ってます。しかも、表現がしょぼかったり、言い回しがあってるか、
どうかとか考えながら進むので、作業は難航し、混乱を極めます。
気が付いたら、”はぁ”、朝を迎えているわけです。

そして、ふらふらになってキッチンに行くと、マラソン帰りのイタリア―ノと遭遇。
そして、ＡＣミランのユニフォーム姿で、”Hello! How are you? ”だって。
どうですかコレ？　俺は、お前が羨ましいよ。ホント。

来季は、もうちょっと旨く時間をマネージして、余裕を持たせたいです。
そして、イタリアノーします。

Meeting Dwayne in London G.ドウェイン、ロンドンに現る！

Today, I went to Home office in London. It was cold day snowing much. It finished very fast and the officer did not give me time to ask an question. I was worried about the rejection of my VISA application since her attitude was so rude. Compared to Japanese officers, they were ruder.

After that, I visited SI-UK London which is the agent that helped me to go abroad. It was contingent that the president of the firm, Dwayne came to UK. He is a funny man who joked us a lot in the class, whether his jokes were gunny or not, he made efforts to make us laugh. I think it is his motto.

In the office, there are some staffs whose nationalities are different: Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, British and Indian. I think this was the future firm of the world communicating with English. His business seems to be successful to set up new office in India. UK universities are attractive to all over countries, therefore his business is gonna be stable. I hope I will run such a successful business in Japan. But no idea now. Anyway, I need to study and study..


今日は、午前中にロンドンの入国管理局（？）に行き、延長ＶＩＳＡの申請をしてきました。
しかし、相変わらずブリティッシュの役人の対応終わってます。日本の数段ひどいですね。
いつごろ、ＶＩＳＡが戻ってくるのか質問しようと思い、whe..と言いかけたら、"You can go home" だって。まぁ、なんと失礼な。

その後、時間があったので、東京でお世話になったＳＩ-ＵＫのロンドンオフィスに行きました。　
日本で、お世話になったことを言うと、スタッフが親近感を持ってくれたようで、親切に対応してくれました。ＳＩ－ＵＫロンドンの面白いところは、スタッフ各々の国籍が違うことだ。
中国人、スペイン人、インド人、日本人、イギリス人。ただ、共通言語の英語は、みなさん流暢で、コミュニケーションの問題はなさそうです。世界の縮図ですね、これは。たぶん、日本にもこういった企業が徐々に増えていきそうな気がします。

1時間くらいすると、ドウェインが現れた。あの東京にいた、フレンドリーなおっさんだ。
日本にいると、変わったおっさんぐらいにしか思わなかったけど、イギリスだと、そのフレンドリーさに有難みを感じました。Home officeの連中の対応の悪さが、半端なかっただけに、一層、そう感じたのかもしれません。

彼のビジネスは、なかなか順調そうで、インドでのオフィスの立ち上げを終えてきたばかり、とのこと。　順調そうで、実に羨ましい。。俺も、”無料エージェント”、これを俺も日本でやろうかな。なんてちょっと考えちゃいました。

あれこれ考えるうちに、自分のエッセイのDueが近いのに気づく。まぁ、先のことは、置いておき、目の前の課題に取り組まなければ。今は、現実に追われるのみだ。

My house mates, an Italian イタリア―ノ

1st December

I live with international people: Polish, Italian and Latvian. It is so-called a shared house which is popular in the U.K. In Japan, the system do not penetrate since everybody care about strangers. Good points of the system is cheap rent and getting international experience. You can practice your English as well. In fact, the rent I paid is 380 pound per month, it's cheap isn't it?

Recently, the weather here is terrible snowing sometime. The quality of heater is not good, so the room is a bit cold. But, when I woke up in this morning, an Italian guy stood in front of me and wear a short pants and the uniform of AC milan. I asked him 'what are you gonna do?', he answered running. I was shaking because of cold weather but he seemed to be fine. He is really nice person and clever guy as a PhD student. I want to be a guy like him.

今、イタリア人とポーランド人、ラトビア人と同じ家に住んでいます。いわゆるシェアハウスってやつです。こっちだと、この仕組みは相当普及してます。日本は、警戒心が強いのか、シェアハウスがあまりないようですね。安いし、異文化体験にもなるし、英語の練習にもなるし、いいと思うんだけど。
ちなみに、僕は、かなり広い部屋を光熱費込で、月額５万円位で借りてますです。安いでしょ？

最近、イギリスの気候が変です。珍しく、雪が降っています。暖房の性能がよくないだけに、部屋も、ちょっと寒いです。
さて、今日、朝目覚め、フルフルしながら、廊下に出ると、このイタリア人にバッタリ遭遇。
しかも、この寒い中、短パン、ウィンブレ姿だし。。
”ワット”と僕が驚くと、”ラニング　ヤァー”と言って、さっそうと玄関を出て行きました。

身長は185センチぐらいで、スリムな体型で、しかもフィットもある、相当なイケメン君だ。
にもかかわらず、イタリアの大学では、物理の博士課程を専攻している、秀才君なのです。
（イギリスには研究で１－２か月滞在予定）
”天は二物”を与えずっていうのは、迷信だ。人生の中で、幾度これを感じたことか。
ヨーロピアンは”秀才＋イケメン”、もしくわ”秀才＋美女”、この組み合わせは多いと思います。
というより、ギリシャ哲学みたいなのが影響してるのか、体を鍛えて、勉強や仕事
とのバランスをよくとって、時間をマネージしたほうが、”イケてる”っていう感覚なんだと思う。

自分も、仕事と酒ばっかりで、家でゴロゴロしてるような、そんな奴にはなりたくないな。
何か勉強や仕事以外にも、趣味を持ち、近所の仲間とも交流をする。
そういった社会性のある大人に僕はなりたいな。（ちなみに、自分は未だ中途半端ですが）。

さて明日は、朝７：３０から合気道の朝練がありますので、課題を終わらせて、寝ます。

Starting my Blog !! － ブログ始めました !!

I am not good at general writing but I start a Blog. Because studying abroad will be a precious experience in my life, so it will be good reminder for the future.

Since I came here in July 2010, it have passed 5 months. I now feel lack of my ability including English. I failed English test soon after semester 1 started, now I need to take a English course.  Every time I attend the class, I feel I am a disabled person which means I cannot catch the words from a lecturer, and cannot speak any english words. This is like a monkey in Nikko in Japan. Anyway, I will make an effort to continue blogging. See you soon.

私は、どちらかと言うと、モノを書くのが苦手な方ですが、ブログを始めてみることにしました。
人生の中で、留学なんてそうあるものでもないし、日々の記録残すのも悪くないかと。

２０１０年の７月に、ここ英国サウサンプトンに来て、はや５か月近く。
９月に授業が始まってからは、自分の英語力のなさ、頭の弱さに、劣等感を感じる日々です。
始まって、早々のエッセーでは、不合格。追加で英語クラスを受講することに。
レクチャーに出れば、講師の言っていることがわからず、置いてきぼりに。
当然、発言などできるわけもなく、授業で茫然とすることもしばしば。
いわば、日光でいうところの、”見ざる、言わざる、聞かざる”ですよ。コレは。
まぁ、とにかく大変です。

ということで、3日坊主にならぬよう、このブログ、頑張って続けようと思います。
